An Interesting Porch

That was my brief, which arose from the frustration of living in a house where the front door lead directly into the kitchen, with no space for coats and shoes, and no shelter from the weather. A further frustration was the house had no windows to the side, which meant an attractive view across woodland was only seen from the garden.

The porch responds to this by taking on an angular from. This has two consequences. Firstly, opens it up to frame the view that was previously lost to the house. Secondly, it allows the roof to dip below the canopy of an attractive tree that would otherwise have had to be removed.

The structure is built entirely of timber with a lead roof, within which is a strip of patent glazing to ensure both the porch and the attached kitchen remain light and airy.
